Barbara Flescher Scholarship

PURPOSE
This award will be presented in recognition of Barbara Flescher's tremendous contribution to the field of children's librarianship and to honor our first president and founding member. The presentation will be made by the Children's Librarians Association of Suffolk County, Inc. (CLASC, Inc.) in the amount of $2,000. In addition, the scholarship winner will receive a one year paid membership to CLASC, Inc. Note: if the winner is already a member, their membership will be extended for an additional year. No monies will be refunded.

ELIGIBILITY

Each applicant must be currently attending an accredited graduate library school program. The applicant must be a resident of Suffolk County and exhibit an interest in the field of children's librarianship in a public library. Former recipients of this award may not apply again.


PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING
1). Complete the attached application

2). Attach a 300-word typed statement regarding your philosophy towards children's librarianship. If you previously applied for the scholarship, you may resubmit your original statement of philosophy.

3). Submit two (2) letters of recommendation.

4). Request an official copy of your library school transcript to be sent from your school to the scholarship chairperson (see below).


DEADLINE
Complete applications, including statement of philosophy, letters of recommendation, and library school transcript must be received by the scholarship committee chairperson no later than April 12, 2024. AWARD PRESENTATION
Candidates will be selected by a committee of CLASC, Inc. members and the recipient will be announced at the CLASC Annual Dinner on April 18, 2024.
