You're invited to the next CLASC New Book Seminar!

Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2017
Time: 10:00am to Noon
Place: Sachem Public Library
150 Holbrook Road, Holbrook NY
(631) 588-5024

It's awards season so join us for a group discussion of an award-winner.  What will the title be?  Well, we're not sure yet.

If the Newbery medalist was not discussed at the SCLS Mock Newbery (see list below) on January 5, then that will be our group discussion title.  However, if the Newbery medalist was discussed, our group title will be the book that won the Coretta Scott King Award.

To find out what our group discussion Title will be, tune in to the ALA awards webcast on Monday, January 23 beginning at 8:00am.

Following the group discussion, bring a new and noteworthy fiction title that reflects diversity in its themes or characters to flashtalk to the group.

RSVP by February 24 to Marybeth Kozikowski, Marybeth.kozikowski@sachemlibrary.org.  Please include the title of the book you will flashtalk to avoid duplication.

Join Us for the Next CLASC New Book Seminar!

What makes a quality easy or transitional reader?

Find out when the renowned KT Horning joins us via Skype to discuss evaluating books for this crucial stage in young readers' development.  In preparation, participants are asked to read Chapter 6 "Easy Readers and Transitional Books" from Ms. Horning's seminal book From Cover to Cover (Collins, 2010).  Ask how to get a copy of this chapter when registering.

The Skype discussion will comment on Don't Throw It to Mo! by David Adler.  To get the most from the discussion, read this Geisel-winning title along with Ms. Horning's chapter (only 24 pages).
